As part of our art lesson today the children used African animals and created silhouettes in the sun to trace round the shadow. Once they did this we went inside and filled in the animals showing how to use our pencil to create different tone and textures.

Colour wheels
As part of our art lesson today the children learnt what primary colours are. We moved on to practising how to create different colours using our primary colours.
Questions about the world
Animals classification
To recap what we learnt from our live lessons in lockdown, today we focussed on remembering animals classification. The children were able to identify all the different groups of animals and why they belong in those groups. It was great to hear them discussing why they belonged to certain groups, showing a good understanding of knowledge.
Video: ‘What a Wonderful World’
This week as part of our amazing ‘Here We Are’ English project the children created an additional verse together to ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louie Armstrong.
Perfect Shelter
As part of our Here We Are project today the Puffins started with reading a story by Clare Helen Walsh called The Perfect Shelter.
This was all about how we feel when someone we care about gets sick and how we can care for them. After sharing and exploring this book the children created a shelter to help and protect a pretend animal.
Here We Are
This week we have kicked started an amazing English project. This is based on a great book called Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. The book is a guide to living on planet Earth and exploring every aspect of this in child friendly terms. We started by exploring the Solar System and the Earth. Moving on from the Earth to focus on our environment of school. The children were able to write a short piece of information about our school, discussing who is in our school, what happens here, what they like and don’t like. We finished the week with writing their own lyrics to the song What a Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong.
Listening to instructions
To finish our focussed week of Behaviours for Learning, the Puffins put their listening skills and concentration skills to the test. Miss Coghlan gave them strict instructions on what to draw on their boards. They really had to concentrate and listen to see if their pictures matched Miss Coghlan’s. Some of the outcomes were very funny! This was meant to be an ice cream ?
Behaviours for Learning
This week in the afternoons the Puffins have been focussing on Listening and Concentrating. Today we played Guess the Noise and children did a great job really showing great listening skills to pick out the correct sounds. We moved on to writing A Guide to Good Listening as a whole class, discussing what does good listening look like and how do we know good listening has taken place.
At the end of the day the children demonstrated their fantastic listening and concentration skills by following an online drawing lesson to draw Spiderman.
Listening and Concentration
What a fantastic day the Puffins had yesterday all been back to together in class ? After having a good catch-up with friends and teachers we focussed on getting reacquainted with our Behaviours for Learning, ensuring we focus on listening and concentrating to help with our learning. We discussed all the things that help us listen ‘a quiet room’ Poppy ‘having the rules so children know when to be quiet and when to talk’ Olivia. We also discussed what hinders our listening and concentration in class, ‘People walking through’ Ollie and ‘friends talking to me’ Evelyn.
After we learnt how we can stay focussed enough to concentrate by following the Concentration Candle from Cosmic Kids.
