This afternoon Puffin class watched the story of ‘Tortoise and the Hare’ as part of their learning behaviour focus perseverance.
We then discussed times we have persevered in our life.

As part of our recount unit for English, the Puffins today have read and labelled a recount. They demonstrated the key elements of a recount and the language that needs to be used within a recount.
For our science topic this half term we are learning all about Animals and Humans. Last week we classified lots of different animals and this week we have sorted different animals in to what they eat. Whether they are herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. All of the children did a great job creating a list of animals and then they were able to independently sort the animals into the categories of what they eat.
Here are a couple of examples of Nyeema’s and Ryan’s work to show.
The Puffins have had a very hectic afternoon doing maths. Continuing our time unit we today focused on the measurement of time, how long 1min is, an hour etc. To do this we challenged ourselves to complete a variety of tasks with 1, 2 or 3mins. The hardest task was how many laps of the playground in 3mins, after 2mins Jani was exhausted but he preserved and managed a grand total of 3 laps.
Wow what a week! The Puffins have been so busy with learning the time in Maths, building on own stories in English about Where the Wild Things Are and having BeeBot races in Computing we almost didn’t have time to play in the tiny amount of snow.
This is the Puffins going on a 3D shape hunt to complete our shape unit. The found cuboid to be the most popular shape in the school and square based pyramid to be the least popular shape in the school.
We have also this week introduced our next learning behaviour Perseverance.
‘Perseverance is when you don’t give up’ Nyeema
‘If you fail you just keep going and do it again’ Oliver
The challenge today was to hold hands in a circle and pass the hula hoop around the circle but they were not allow to break hands. Some children found the challenge to be really hard but they all encouraged each other to persevere and they completed it in the end. Well done Puffins.
Today the Puffins have been relating 3D shapes to everyday objects.
‘You can have ice cream in a cone’ Esmay
‘A football is a sphere’ Mason
‘The glue stick is a cylinder’ Brooke
Welcome back to Puffins – the children all had a fantastic holiday. Today it was back to hard work, learning all about shapes in Maths and writing their very own journey tale to start our topic. This afternoon in art the children have created wintery scenes using lots of colours and materials for a collage picture.
