Week Commencing 18th September

In English, Puffins have enjoyed listening to the story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’. They have been very busy acting out the story using masks, sequencing and writing sentences using adjectives.
In Maths, the children have been learning all about representing numbers and recognising numerals. They have worked in their table groups to match quantity to number and word.
During history the children have been learning all about ‘past’ and ‘present’. They completed a cutting and sticking activity where they had to sort objects into the correct category.
The children have been introduced to the famous artist  ‘Vincent Van Gogh’. They had a quick look into his story and got to have a look at some of his paintings. The children liked ‘The Starry Night’ and ‘The sunflower’. They looked at the texture of his paintings and how they are full of different lines, swirls and markings. The children then had a go at drawing a self-portrait in the same style. The children thoroughly enjoyed drawing themselves and we did have a few giggles about how some had turned out. Miss Gordon and I think they are FANTASTIC!! Well done Puffins.

Welcome back Puffins!

We hope you have all had a fantastic summer holiday.
The children have settled in beautifully this week they have taken the new room and routines in their stride.
We have been doing lots of getting to know you activities and the children all completed a fantastic self portrait. We have been very busy with our continuous provision activities too! Check out the photos to see how they got on.

Our Last Week

Puffins have been exploring the forest this week. The children went on a plant hunt and had the task of drawing any plants that they find.

Maths – Money, Money, Money!! We have been learning all about UK currency during our maths lessons this week. The children were introduced to all of the different coins they then worked with their table partners to match the coins.

The children have been listening to ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ by Edvard Greig during art week. The children then discussed as a whole class how it made them feel and where we could imagine ourselves being during the piece. Henry said “It’s like I’m up high on a roof” and Karim said “It’s like we’re in a cave and someone’s catching us”. The children then came up with some ideas on what they would like to create. Check out the pictures below to find out how they turned out.
Puffins loved taking part in sports day! Although the rain did cut it short the children all had a great time competing. We had some super speedy egg and spoon, obstacle and sprint races. Well done Puffins!!
Swans came through for their transition day this week. The children played some circle time games and coloured in a jigsaw piece that will be displayed in the classroom ready for when they come in September. We shared some fun facts about ourselves. Freddie said “I like disco music” and Lillie said “I like spiders”. Rishi said “I like peacocks and elephants and Parrots”. Thank you Swans for a great transition day. Miss Gordon and I can’t wait to welcome you all back in September!!!
