In English, Puffins have enjoyed looking at our new story ‘The Gruffalo’. They have been working hard to think of adjectives and write them in a sentence.
In maths, we have been looking at counting in tens and ones and using this knowledge to count money. We played some games on the IWB and had a look at some coins during the practical part of our lesson.
This week in DT the children have been baking. We went down to the DT room with our recipe and cooked carrot cakes! The children worked hard at grating, measuring and pouring. They whisked and mixed until they had the perfect cake mixture. They then decided from their previous planning lesson that they wanted to add different flavours to make their carrot cakes taste better. Once they were baked the children got to decorate them with icing and sprinkles.
This week has also been our special Art Week. The children have enjoyed creating their art week pictures. Our artist is ‘Katsushika Hokusa’ who painted ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’.
Puffins have been practising some pirate songs in music. We then had a go at playing some glockenspiels alongside the music. Check out our videos below!
During Computing the children have been using the website ‘Purple Mash’ to collect data and add it onto a pictograph. They have been working in pairs to find out what weather their classmates like best. The children also had the opportunity to find out what pirate object they liked best. We found out that we all love treasure!!!
What a great day we have had for our sports day! We were very lucky with the weather – the children really enjoyed competing in all categories. Well done Puffins for taking part.
During English we have been looking at some famous pirates. The children have been researching Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, Black Bart and William Kidd. We found out some really interesting facts! The children have then written a short biography. Check out our work below!
Puffins have been learning about time, we have been looking at ‘half past’ and ‘o’clock’. The children have completed lots of practical working in pairs to make a time on their clocks they have also been drawing the hands on a clock face.
In science the children have been learning all about plants and what they need in order to grow. The children got to complete an experiment, planting cress seeds. One of their plants got everything it needs to grow successfully and the other would be missing a key factor; either no soil, no water or no light. After a week, we looked back at our seeds to see what differences we could see. Our results were amazing! We found that the seeds with everything they needed grew green and bushy, the seeds with no light grew tall but were yellow. The seeds with no soil grew slightly but died shortly after and the seeds with no water didn’t grow at all. After we discussed our results we placed all of the plants out into the sun and after a few days the yellow cress turned green!
Puffins have also been learning the differences between evergreen and deciduous. We watched a clip with ‘Ranger Hannah’ – she goes exploring through her own garden to show us the different types of trees she can find. After we talked about the different trees we have in our forest and surrounding areas the children then completed a worksheet, finishing sentences to show their understanding.
During R.E this week we have been looking at the story ‘The Lost Sheep’ – a children’s Bible story about a shepherd who lost a sheep. This story can help children understand God’s great love for all people, including those who may not appear to be religious. God loves all people regardless of what they do. After the story and lots of discussion the children got to make a sheep to take home.
The children have loved their Dance session. This week we had Coach Sophie and she taught us a Chinese themed dance.
Check out our video and see our great dance moves!!
